How many principles of yoga are there?

Under the commandments of Yama and Niyama, he set out five principles to guide the way of life and five inner observances for living a peaceful life. These include Ahimsa, Satya, Asteya, Brahmacharya, Aparigraha, Shoucha, Santosha, Tapas, Svadhyaya, Ishvara Pranidhana. The philosophy of yoga is based on 5 principles. These five principles provide guidelines for followers and also act as a way of life.

These five principles are very important and everyone who practices yoga should know them, understand them and act in accordance with them. The basic purpose of these five principles is to serve as a guide and limit for yoga practitioners. A fundamental principle of yoga is the ability to use routines, positions and sequences to perform a satisfying workout. Those who practice yoga recognize that proper exercise is a fundamental aspect of keeping the body healthy.

Coined as yoga asanas, postures are used to stretch and tone muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments while improving strength and flexibility. They also improve blood circulation and release any tension or stiffness in the body. It is also noted that asanas are designed to be inclusive, since they take into account all levels and fitness abilities. It's vital that everyone can practice them safely, as is Garuda's adaptability.

Instead of holding positions, we use the Garuda technique to move through them and target areas from macro to micro. Our strength lies in how we move from one position to another or how we move from one Asana to the next. In yoga, breathing practices are called pranayama, which means to control the body's subtle energy. By practicing pranayama, you can connect your body to the solar plexus area, where this energy is stored and then released.

At Garuda, we use different Kriyas (breathing techniques) to prepare the body for pranayama, which is, by nature, a much deeper state of breathing. We appreciate that to reach that stage, the body must prepare in more than one way for pranayama to work at its best. Ultimately, this will allow energy to move fully through the body. Savasana is used to completely relax the entire body, mind and soul and is often practiced while lying still near the end of a yoga class.

However, we have found a different way to incorporate this relaxation into the Garuda method. The five principles of yoga are the basis for achieving a healthy body and mind through the practice of yoga. This principle revolves around the idea that our physical body is meant to move and exercise. Proper exercise is achieved through yoga poses or Asana, which act systematically on all parts of the body: it stretches and tones muscles and ligaments, improves the flexibility of the spine and joints, and improves blood circulation.

Asanas are designed to regulate the physical and physiological functions of the body. Practicing these yoga poses relaxes your body, gives you more strength and energy, and rejuvenates the body's various systems. The yoga pose goes hand in hand with proper breathing. Every movement and stretch must be guided by breathing, making your movement and breathing coordinated and you feel as one and the same.

The execution of Asana is beneficial to the body and, at the same time, contributes to spiritual and mental growth. This means breathing fully and rhythmically, using all parts of the lungs to increase oxygen intake. Proper breathing should be deep, slow and rhythmic. To achieve this, you must be able to regulate the duration and duration of inhalation, exhalation and air retention in the lungs or the pauses between breathing.

Yoga or pranayama breathing exercises teach you how you can recharge your body and control your mental state by regulating the flow of Prana, the life force. This helps you achieve a calmer, more focused mind and increases your energy level. While the principles of yoga and Garuda may seem complex if you're dealing with an outsider, the best way to fully understand these principles and link them to life is to let yourself be carried away by practice. With the evolution of modern yoga styles, which sometimes innocuously emphasize the form of physical forms to fulfill a particular function, it's easy to forget that function has always preceded form. This invisible side of the physical body symbolizes the west in Yoga because physical practice was generally performed facing the rising sun, to the east.
